Australia offers an extraordinary range of landscapes — from coastal beaches and vibrant cities to ancient rainforests and wide open bushland. As you take part in meaningful conservation efforts, you’ll experience the diversity that makes this country so distinctive.
From the living reef systems of the Great Barrier Reef to the sweeping sands of K’gari (Fraser Island) and the dramatic escarpments of the Blue Mountains, Australia is home to places recognized around the world for their natural beauty. Its wildlife is equally remarkable, with species found nowhere else on Earth.
Yet beyond its global reputation for stunning scenery and iconic animals lies a more complex story. Australia has faced some of the highest rates of deforestation and species extinction in the developed world. Habitat loss, climate pressures, and land management challenges continue to affect delicate ecosystems across the continent.
Participating in conservation initiatives here offers an opportunity to better understand both the beauty and the responsibility that come with it — contributing thoughtfully to efforts that support the long-term health of these landscapes and the species that depend on them.
Depending on your program selection, you may support health-focused initiatives, engage in child education through ISV Legacy’s Children’s Program, participate in hands-on community development projects, or contribute to environmental and conservation efforts.
Through service, cultural connection, and teamwork, you won’t just help support community-identified needs—you’ll also gain new perspective, purpose, and real-world experience that extends far beyond the program. This is more than volunteering; it’s an opportunity to grow, connect, and be part of something that truly matters.

In the last 200 years, Australia has lost many of its iconic species and has one of the worst mammal extinction rates in the world.
As a volunteer, you have the opportunity to work alongside local Australian organizations that have partnered with ISV to develop hands-on conservation Volunteer Projects. Your efforts will help to protect and restore the unique and fragile Australian landscapes which provide habitat for Australia’s threatened flora and fauna.
Projects focus on habitat restoration, and you may find yourself working in a wildlife sanctuary, doing scientific research or an outdoor education project. Each placement blends meaningful service with hands-on learning, giving you the chance to experience the country in a way most travelers never do.

The Dominican Republic is a developing country facing the ongoing struggles of poverty. As a volunteer, you have the opportunity to work in the Dominican communities that are handpicked by ISV Legacy to make a difference in the lives of hundreds of underprivileged children and families. Your efforts will focus on education (via the ISV Legacy Children’s Program) and building projects for community infrastructure in rural areas. Many of these communities have no electricity or running water, everyday things that many people take for granted.

For all our health-focused immersions — a U.S.-licensed and nationally certified Medical Doctor (MD or DO), Physician Assistant (PA), or Nurse Practitioner (NP) will be embedded with your group Their presence is designed to provide clinical context to participant observations, facilitate structured learning discussions, and support thoughtful reflection throughout the health-focused immersion experience. Serving as an educator and mentor, this professional strengthens the educational depth of the immersion. You will also be actively engaging with local doctors, nurses, and or public health professionals, giving you a true 360° global health perspective. These experts will guide your journey through:
This is one of the only programs that pairs immersive global health service learning with a licensed U.S. provider during the volunteer portion of your immersion, along with local expertise and mentorship.

As a volunteer, you will help educate children who have limited access to everyday learning resources such as books, pencils, and consistent classroom instruction. In many communities, schools are under-resourced and there are simply not enough teachers to meet students’ needs. ISV Legacy uses this design to supplement the local public education system. In a supportive, summer-camp–style setting, you will help teach basic English, Math, Science, Safety, Resiliency, Leadership, and Health Education, while encouraging curiosity, confidence, and a love of learning.
Lessons are paired with engaging activities such as music and dance, arts and crafts, and physical recreation, creating a fun, dynamic environment where children feel excited to participate and learn.
The goal of the ISV Legacy's Children’s Program is to provide a foundation for quality education while creating positive, memorable learning experiences for children in the Dominican Republic.
Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own skills, creativity, and enthusiasm—helping transform each lesson into an experience that is both meaningful and unforgettable.
Our itineraries, programs, and projects are thoughtfully designed and may be refined throughout the year to reflect improvements based on participant feedback, local conditions, and ongoing program evaluation. Please know the images, descriptions, and sample itineraries on our website are designed to reflect actual in-country experiences as closely as possible. However, because each program and cultural exploration experience is scheduled around specific immersion dates, details may vary depending on the dates you select and the program you choose.
Volunteers retain full discretion to opt in or out of the Beyond the Project: Cultural Exploration Through Shared Experiential Adventure & Immersion phase, as well as any specific activities offered within this phase of the program.
When you select a program and before you submit your application, you’ll receive more detailed immersion information specific to your chosen program, including dates, activities, and logistics. While plans are carefully finalized in advance, minor adjustments to schedules, activities, and/or accommodations may still occur to ensure the best possible experience.
Please know the official ISV Legacy Participant Immersion Manual will always serve as the most accurate and up-to-date source for your confirmed itinerary and program details. Participants will receive a finalized ISV Legacy Participant Immersion Manual approximately 30 days prior to departure, which will include even more details related to days and dates of specific pre-departure and in-country accommodations, activities, and logistical details. We strongly encourage reviewing this document shortly before travel and bringing your e-version with you, as it contains the most up-to-date and authoritative information.
The Immersion Manual will also be reviewed during a pre-departure orientation, conducted via video conference approximately two weeks prior to departure. This session will include additional program details and a live question-and-answer segment(s) to address any remaining questions.
While ISV Legacy Programs makes every reasonable effort to minimize unexpected changes, occasional adjustments may occur due to weather conditions, seasonal changes, or transportation schedules. The order, timing, or sequence of activities and destinations may vary, and in some cases, itineraries may operate in reverse or adjusted order. When applicable, participants will be notified in advance.
ISV Legacy Programs and its partnering organizations reserve the right to modify itineraries, accommodations, and included activities as necessary to ensure participant safety, program quality, and overall program integrity. If you have questions at any point, our team is always here to support you.
