After completing your chosen immersive service experience(s) focusing health, community development and childhood education, and/or conservation, most participants opt in to continue their journey through Beyond the Project: Cultural Exploration Through Shared Experiential Adventure & Immersion.
This phase is designed to deepen cultural understanding, strengthen cohort bonds, and place community experiences within a broader regional and cultural context. In this phase, service deepens through shared experiential adventure and immersive moments that build strong connections and lasting friendships—reinforcing meaning and encouraging reflection, perspective, and sustained behavioral change within a social learning environment.

Depart your volunteer project and travel together by bus to Santo Domingo, the vibrant capital of the Dominican Republic and the first city built in the New World—continuing your all-inclusive immersion experience and marking the transition into Beyond the Project: Cultural Exploration Through Shared Experiential Adventure & Immersion. Traveling as a cohort with program leaders, you’ll check in at Novus Plaza Hotel, centrally located in the historic Colonial Zone, your safe, supported home base for the evening. The adventure continues!
Prepare and discuss the seven phases of Beyond the Project: Cultural Exploration Through Shared Experiential Adventure & Immersion—immersive, shared experiences deepen your service experience and growth—building connections, strengthening friendships, and encouraging reflection within dynamic social learning context.
As a group, you’ll dive into the city’s rich past through a guided ChuChu Train Colonial Zone tour, immersive sightseeing, and a dynamic 4D Cinema experience that brings the history of the Americas to life. After dinner, the experience continues with directed group exploration of the Colonial Zone at night—giving you the freedom to soak in the energy of Santo Domingo while remaining connected, supported, and guided alongside your cohort.
That evening, the cohort will come together for a memorable final dinner in Santo Domingo at the 1502 Restaurant, located within the historic Nicolás de Ovando Hotel—a beautifully preserved colonial landmark more than 500 years old. Set along Calle Las Damas, the first paved street of the New World, and overlooking the Ozama River and the Port of Sans Souci, this setting provides a powerful sense of place to close this chapter of the journey.
After dinner, the experience continues with directed group exploration of this lively area of the Colonial Zone. With program leaders nearby and clear group boundaries, you’ll have time to enjoy street performers, and take in the energy of Santo Domingo—while remaining connected, supported, and safe alongside your cohort.
The evening will conclude with a guided Strategic Reflection Forum, focusing on adaptability, composure under pressure, and leadership presence-structured dialogue centered on resilience, calculated risk, and responsible decision-making.
As a group, you’ll spend the morning learning about Fundación Verde Profundo’s impactful work across the Dominican Republic, with a focus on coral reef restoration and mangrove reforestation—two critical ecosystems that protect coastal communities and marine life. Following a guided orientation, you’ll work side-by-side to plant mangrove seedlings and clean artificially planted coral, contributing directly to ongoing conservation efforts.
After service, the group will enjoy time to swim and relax together in the clear, turquoise waters of Playa Boca Chica, soaking in the energy and colors of the Caribbean—always moving as a group and supported throughout the experience. On the return to the Colonial Zone, you’ll stop at Los Tres Ojos, a stunning natural cave system featuring three underground freshwater lagoons, offering a moment of reflection and awe before returning to the city.
Evening Reflection: Trust & Teamwork - listening well, working together, and supporting each other when things move fast.
Beyond the Project Continues: Mountain Adventure & Shared Experience | Jarabacoa. Continue your all-inclusive immersion experience as the group travels together, supported and guided by program leaders, westward into the lush highlands of Jarabacoa—the adventure capital of the Dominican Republic. In this phase of Beyond the Project, service deepens through shared experiential adventure and immersive moments, strengthening connections, building lasting friendships, and encouraging reflection and perspective within a dynamic shared experience.
The day begins with a continental breakfast at Novus Plaza Hotel, followed by lunch on the road as the cohort makes its way into the mountains. Situated at 1,800 feet above sea level, near Pico Duarte, the highest peak in the Caribbean, Jarabacoa offers a dramatic shift in landscape and energy.
As a group, you’ll take on whitewater rafting on the Yaque del Norte River—ISV's highest-rated activity and widely considered the best rafting experience in the Caribbean. Navigating technical rapids and breathtaking scenery in one of the country’s most remote regions, this guided experience delivers both adrenaline and awe—always supervised, safety-focused, and team-driven.
Later in the afternoon, the group checks in at the Gran Jimenoa Hotel, where you’ll unwind together with time to swim in the hotel pool and take in views of the powerful Jimenoa River. After dinner, the evening continues with a relaxed, fun-filled group karaoke night, giving you space to laugh, celebrate, and connect—bringing the day to a close in a way that feels both energizing and deeply communal.
Evening Reflection: Courage & Smart Choices - building confidence, facing fears wisely, and choosing risks that help us grow.
Continue your all-inclusive immersion experience with an early group start as you travel together, supported and guided by program leaders, into another unforgettable phase of Beyond the Project. In this phase, service and growth deepen through shared experiential adventure and immersive moments—strengthening connections, building lasting friendships, and encouraging reflection and perspective.
The day begins with a continental breakfast at Rancho Jarabacoa, followed by one of the program’s most thrilling and memorable experiences: waterfall rappelling in the Central Mountain Range of the Dominican Republic. As a cohort, you’ll descend a 150-foot waterfall, jump from a 30-foot cliff into the refreshing waters of the Jimenoa River, and take in two of the tallest waterfalls on the island. This guided, safety-focused activity offers an adrenaline rush balanced by teamwork, trust, and awe-inspiring natural beauty.
After lunch at Rancho Jarabacoa, the group travels north to Cabarete, the Caribbean’s Wind and Wave Capital and a world-renowned hub for water sports. This vibrant coastal town is internationally known for windsurfing, kitesurfing, surfing, stand-up paddleboarding, and the emerging sport of wing foiling, offering a dramatic contrast to the mountain landscapes of the morning.
Upon arrival, you’ll check in together at Villa Taina Hotel, then enjoy time to explore Cabarete as a group before heading to a beachfront dinner at VoyVoy, where the day winds down with ocean views, shared stories, and the energy of the North Coast—always connected, supported, and moving forward together.
Evening Reflection: Endurance & Recovery - knowing when to push forward and when to rest - for yourself and those you lead.
Beyond the Project Continues: Ocean Adventure & Coastal Culture | Cabarete - the group begins the day together at Villa Taina Hotel, fueling up for another active and memorable chapter of Beyond the Project. In this phase, growth deepens through shared experiential adventure and immersive moments—grow naturally, friendships take root, and reflection unfolds within a shared supportive social learning space.
The morning kicks off with 2.5 hours of surfing lessons at Playa Encuentro, one of the most iconic surf beaches in the Caribbean. Guided by experienced local instructors and moving together as a group, you’ll learn the fundamentals, catch waves, and spend time in the crystal-clear water—an activity consistently rated as a participant favorite.
In the afternoon, the group heads out for a snorkeling adventure off the coast of Sosúa, traveling by boat to explore three shallow reef sites rich with tropical marine life. You’ll encounter angelfish, parrotfish, trumpetfish, and vibrant coral formations, while guides share insights into local coral reef conservation efforts. If conditions allow, you may also view Atabey, a striking 16-foot Arawak-Taíno statue honoring the goddess of fertility, the moon, and fresh water—adding cultural depth to the experience.
Lunch is yours to enjoy independently in smaller organized groups in Cabarete, giving you flexibility to enjoy the amazing town and people. That evening, the cohort heads for dinner at a local Dominican restaurant, Casa Mami, before heading out together to enjoy another colorful night in Cabarete—always connected and supported.
Evening Reflection: Respect for Nature and the Here and Now - protecting our natural resources, staying present, and recognizing the impact of our choices.
Your all-inclusive immersion experience continues at Villa Taina Hotel, leading into one of the most iconic and unforgettable days of Beyond the Project. In this phase, growth deepens through shared experiential adventure and immersive moments—further strengthening bonds, expanding perspective, and fostering lasting friendships.
As a group, you’ll head into the lush jungle landscape of the 27 Waterfalls of Damajagua for an adrenaline-filled canyoning experience, jumping and sliding through natural rock formations and cascading waterfalls in one of the Dominican Republic’s most spectacular settings. This fully guided adventure blends excitement, teamwork, and awe, creating a powerful shared experience that stays with you long after the day ends. Lunch is included on site following the activity.
Returning to Cabarete, the cohort reunites for a meaningful final evening on the North Coast. A short boat ride along the Yasica River leads to dinner at La Boca on the Beach, followed by a farewell bonfire under the stars—a relaxed and reflective celebration of the journey shared, the connections built, and the impact of weeks spent combining direct service with deep cultural immersion. The evening offers space to laugh, reflect, and fully take in this final chapter before heading home the next day.
Evening Reflection: Balance & Flow - adapting to change and finding rhythm in leadership.
The final phase of your all-inclusive immersion experience brings the group together to intentionally reflect, connect, and bring closure to an extraordinary journey. Through guided wrap-up meetings and group discussions, participants integrate the full impact of weeks spent across Dominican Republic Immersion Projects—including your chosen program (health-focused service, conservation, and/or community development and childhood education)—together with your Beyond the Project: Cultural Exploration Through Shared Experiential Adventure & Immersion.
This reflective space helps solidify meaning, perspective, and personal growth, reinforcing the connections formed and the lessons learned within a supportive social learning environment designed to encourage lasting insight and forward momentum.
The day begins with breakfast together at the hotel, offering time to reconnect, share stories, and celebrate friendships before departure. Then, traveling together as a cohort, participants transfer by bus to the airport for their group or individual flight home—supported and guided every step of the way.
As you say farewell—or better yet, ¡hasta pronto!—to the Dominican Republic, you’ll leave with more than memories. You’ll carry forward a deeper understanding of service, culture, global connection, and your own capacity to lead and engage meaningfully in the world—along with stories you’ll be sharing long after you return home.
